I'm Kenny, and I've been laying tiles since 1995 – hard to believe it's been nearly 30 years. Heskan is named after me and my son Shéa, which feels right since this business is as much about building a future for him as it is about the work itself.

I started out at 18, learning the basics, but over the years I've found what really gets me going: large format tiles, tricky cuts, and working with natural stone. Floors are my thing – there's something satisfying about seeing a floor come together, especially when you've had to figure out a complicated layout or work around awkward spaces. I like the problem-solving side of it as much as the physical work.

The jobs have taken me all over the UK over the years, and I love that no two days are the same. Every space presents its own challenges, and that's what keeps it interesting.

A few years back, I had to step away from tiling after a cancer diagnosis. It gave me time to think about what really matters. Now I'm back at it, but with a different outlook. At 48, I'm not just picking up where I left off – I'm thinking about what comes next. That means bringing Shéa into the trade, teaching him properly, the way I was taught.

When I'm not on the tools, you'll find me at the local boxing gym – I used to box myself, and now I coach. Turns out teaching someone footwork isn't that different from teaching them how to lay tiles: it's all about patience, repetition, and getting the fundamentals right.
